KRISTA HIRSCHMANN, PhD, MA, FACH
ENHANCE Founder & CEO
Flinders Program U.S. Consultant and Master Trainer
Founder of ENHANCE and U.S. Consultant and Master Trainer for the Flinders Program, Krista has a passion for improving the quality of worklife for professional caregivers. This passion stems from her 25 years as a researcher, educator, and organizational leader, supporting clinical teams in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Witnessing the everyday realities facing patients, providers, and organizations lends a nuanced understanding to her approach with stimulating and supporting change by improving communication. Krista values a systems approach to facilitating interactions and behavior change, with a special interest in those conversations related to people engagement and self management.
In addition to her work with ENHANCE, Krista is an active Faculty member and Fellow with the Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH) serving as its Vice-President for External Education and a Board member. Through the ACH, she works closely with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, supporting their Partnership Enhancement Program for CF clinical teams, as well as serves as a Faculty trainer for Yale New Haven Health’s Enhancing Relationship-Centered Care interprofessional workshop. Krista is also a Relational Coordination Certified Professional with Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management, serves as a team member for Relationship Centered Health Care, and works with The Foundation for Medical Excellence’s Healthcare Leadership Institute.
Previously, Krista worked at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), as the Director for the Center for Practice Engagement, which supported the adoption of a patient-centered medical home model. While at LVHN she was also appointed an Assistant Professor at University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine. Earlier in her career she worked as a Medical Educator, facilitating physician professional development in the specialities of Internal Medicine, Ob/Gyn and Palliative Medicine. Krista entered into the healthcare setting full-time with a desire to work directly with health professionals after leaving her position as an Assistant Professor at Penn State.
She earned her PhD in Communication at the University of South Florida, focusing on interpersonal and organizational issues in healthcare. Krista completed her Masters in Communication at the University of Maine and wrote her thesis on women’s lived experiences of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. She also completed her undergraduate work with honors from La Salle University with a double major in History and Communication.
From all these experiences, she has repeatedly learned the impact of deep listening, reflection, and genuine partnerships to reignite joy, foster health, and grow as an empathic and congruent human being.
In her free time, you can find Krista cheering on the sidelines of her children’s sports teams, reading historical non-fiction, or getting dirty in her unruly garden.
